Mizoram to have better ties with Bangladesh

AIZAWL, May 10 � Mizoram Industries Minister S Hiato accompanied by high officials attended the Indo-Bangla Trade Fair 2011 held from May 5-7, officials said today.

The various issues taken up during the meeting with Government of Bangladesh were supply of bamboo to paper mills in Bangladesh. An MoU in this regard has already been signed between the Mizoram Government and Bangladesh based Niloy-Niloy Group, Syhlet in 2009. Other issues include taking over the Chittagong mill by the Government of Mizoram, setting up of garments/apparel industries in collaboration with apparel industry of Bangladesh so as to provide substantial employment in Mizoram.

The need for opening border immediately for full-fledged trade between Mizoram and Bangladesh was also discussed during the ministerial meeting recently.

The Mizoram Minister said that trading can be promoted in sectors like steel, textile, readymade garments, oil & gas, coal, limestone and forest- based industries, spices, vegetables, flower and processed foods for which both the countries must ensure concerted efforts. This was stated by the Minister while interacting with media persons in Aizawl on Monday.
