AIZAWL, March 23 - Aizawl looked like a ghost town today as the state entered a partial lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The lockdown is to last till next Sunday.

All shops and business establishments downed their shutters. Although, shops selling essential commodities and pharmacies were exempted, only a handful of pharmacies were open.

Public transport like city buses, maxicabs, taxis and private vehicles stayed off the road.

Only policemen and volunteers of local-level task force on Covid-19 and their vehicles were seen on the road. Emergency cases were given permit by their local area task force to go out.

The lockdown was strictly enforced by the local-level task force in their respective areas, who kept informing the public from their information centres.

Meanwhile, people returning from Covid-19 affected states/countries will be quarantined. Those coming in via air will be quarantined at Lengpui and those coming via Assam will be quarantined at Kolasib.

Earlier, people returning from outside Mizoram were home-quarantined.

Till date, no positive case has been detected in the state.

As of today, 5,94,960 people have been screened. As many as 180 who returned from Covid-10 affected countries are being quarantined and 2,159 people who returned from other Indian states/UTs were advised home-quarantine.
