AIZAWL, Aug 25 - Mizoram today reported 29 locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, which is the highest number of local transmission cases reported so far in the State. A total of 35 fresh cases were reported during the last 24 hours, of which only six have travel history.
�The remaining 29 persons contracted the virus from positive persons,� an official source said, adding that they were detected through contact tracing. Among 503 samples tested at the Zoram Medical College laboratory here, 30 positive cases were detected. Five cases were confirmed at the TrueNat laboratory of the Lunglei Civil Hospital after testing 20 samples, the source said.
Fourteen cases were detected at Melriat village, about 10 km south of Aizawl. They were believed to have contracted the virus from a local task force member who had tested positive a few days back. The new infected patients are aged between seven to 78, the source said, adding that except for a nine-year-old child who showed symptoms, all of them are asymptomatic and were under home quarantine.
With the 35 fresh cases, Mizoram�s COVID-19 tally today rose to 953 of which 492 are active. So far, 461 people have recovered from the disease.
