Mizoram Police to appeal against court order

AIZAWL, April 22 - The Mizoram Police today stated that it would appeal against a Tripura court order rejecting its plea for transit remand of the accused in the assault on two Mizoram Police personnel.

In a statement today, the Mizoram Police said the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate of Kanchanpur in Tripura has released the accused on bail after rejecting the Mizoram Police�s prayer for their transit remand.

�Necessary efforts are being made to file an appeal against this order at an appellate court,� the release added. Mizoram Police are pursuing the matter with due diligence and exploring all possible legal avenues, it added.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram DGP has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident, to be conducted by the DIG (CID).

Three Chakma villagers from Kawnpui-I village of Tripura were arrested by Tripura Police on Sunday for allegedly assaulting two personnel of the 5th India Reserve (IR) battalion of Mizoram Police when the latter were guarding the inter-State border the previous day. The incident took place at New Kawnpui in west Mizoram.
