Mizoram institutions to remain closed from today till April 3

AIZAWL, March 16 - A meeting of the Health and Family Welfare Board chaired by Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana today afternoon decided that all schools, colleges and anganwadi centres under Mizoram government will remain closed from March 17 till April 3.

The order was made under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 (Act No. 3 of 1897) after verbal consultation with the chief minister.

Those institutions having ongoing examinations, should, however continue their exams, the meeting said.

The meeting also instructed public places like gym, picnic spot, cinema halls and swimming pools should also remain closed during the said period.

Prohibition of public gathering in government-run and private hospitals also remain effective, the meeting said.

Residential institutions, children�s homes and rehabilitation centres should also be closed for outsiders. Those in need of admission to such institutions during this closure should be subjected to thorough medical screening.

The meeting also decided to ask the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee, a panel of church leaders representing all denominations in Mizoram, to conduct awareness programme in all churches next Sunday. The meeting appealed to the general public to follow the do�s and don�ts laid out by medical experts as preventive measures against the killer virus.

The Mizoram University too declared holiday for three weeks as a precautionary measure in view of coronavirus outbreaks in several parts of the country. The University had earlier cancelled its convocation scheduled to be held on March 17. zThere are no scheduled examinations during the closure.

�Depending on the situation, the closure may be extended or classes resumed after three weeks,� a source from the University said.
