Mizoram Govt to promote weavers: Minister

AIZAWL, July 10 - Mizoram Industries Minister H Rohluna said that the State Government plans to further promote weavers in the State and continue to support them. He was speaking at a function in Kawlkulh Handloom Cluster on Thursday.

The Minister said that Cluster Development Programme has been carried out at 17 different places in the State and Kawlkulh Cluster was one.

He distributed Rs 26,000 each to the 90 successful trainees for construction of work shed and expressed his hope that the same would generate a new source of income for Kawlkulh and surrounding areas.

In order that the weavers may easily purchase yarn the government has arranged Weavers� Credit Card scheme under which banks gives out loan upto Rs 3 lakh at a low rate of interest of 3 per cent only, the Minister said.

The total assistance to be received by Mizoram for Cluster Development Programme is Rs 16.44 crore of which Rs 9.07 crore has been received. Under Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS), Mizoram would receive Rs 1.12 crore.
