Mizoram Govt forms committee to regulate markets

AIZAWL, March 20 - The Mizoram Government today formed a joint surveillance committee on COVID-19 under the chairmanship of the Mayor of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation to regulate markets to prevent any possible transmission of the virus.

The committee framed safety protocols for markets and roadside vendors under the jurisdiction of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, local councils and the Commerce and Industries Department.

The safety guidelines put in place by the committee include wearing of masks and gloves by all vegetable vendors and traders, maintaining of safe distance from customers, mandatory covering of items with clean and transparent sheets, use of sponge for counting money, and closure of markets at 6 pm.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram Merchant Association has prohibited door-to-door vending by individuals, including Myanmarese nationals and non-tribals. Mizoram has not reported any coronavirus case so far.
