By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Oct 26 - With rising number of locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, the Mizoram government has embarked on COVID-19, starting from Monday, in a desperate bid to break the chain of transmission.

The strategy involves a slew of measures, including awareness activities, restriction on movement of people and regulation of traffic in a bid to break the chain of transmission through strict observance of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and guidelines.

A large number of motorists flocked to pollution testing centre in order to get vehicle pollution certificates in the morning, prompting the chief secretary to order indefinite closure of the centre later in the afternoon.

Following the No Tolerance Fortnight, vehicular traffic in Aizawl today was thinner than usual.

The number of people allowed in funeral and wedding ceremonies has been reduced to 35 while other gatherings like anniversary, book release, etc., the limit is 20 people.

The previous limit was 50, the notification said.

As per the new order, gymnasiums and picnic resorts shall remain closed and sports practice will be allowed with a maximum of 10 participants for indoor events and 25 for outdoor activities.

Meanwhile, Mizoram today reported 46 new patients of COVID-19, which included an 11-month-old infant boy and a three-year-old girl.

An official statement said out of 286 samples tested at Zoram Medical Colleges RT-PCR lab, 40 new cases were detected, while from 85 samples tested with RAgT, six positive cases were detected.
