Mizoram COVID-19 cases climb to 121

AIZAWL, June 16 - Mizoram today recorded four new cases of COVID-19, taking the State tally to 121. The four new cases were detected among 705 samples which were examined.

The new patients include three females and one male, aged between 24 and 30 years. Three are Delhi returnees, while one had returned from Maharashtra. All of them are asymptomatic, and belong to Aizawl district, official sources said.

At present, there are 120 active cases in the State. The first COVID-19 patient, admitted to hospital on March 24, was discharged on

May 9.

COVID-19 suspect flees from hospital: A man, identified as Lalrintluanga, a resident of Siaha district, has escaped from the Zoram Medical College (ZMC), a designated hospital for COVID-19

Police sources said that Lalrintluanga was arrested on theft charges and lodged at the Vaivakawn Police Station in Aizawl. Based on his statement that he had gone to Silchar in Assam a few days before his arrest, he was sent to the ZMC to have his swab sample tested.

Around dinner time on Tuesday, the man escaped from the hospital. He was suspected to have been spotted at Melriat village, about 5 km from the hospital. But he managed to escape from the local task force

volunteers.
