AIZAWL, Sept 2 - Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today urged Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan to relocate to the paramilitarys new headquarters at Zokhawsang as soon as possible, an official release stated.

In a meeting held at the Chief Ministers office, Zoramthanga said the delay in relocation has hampered works on the Aizawl Smart City Project and urged the Assam Rifles to relocate in a phased manner to their new headquarters.

As Mizoram is sandwiched between Myanmar and Bangladesh, it is a hotspot for cross-border crimes, Zoramthanga said and urged the paramilitary force to step up vigil along the international borders for which construction of camps near the borders is a necessity.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to suspend transfer of many troops at one time to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and mentioned that he had written in this regard to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Zoramthanga also urged the Assam Rifles to maintain peaceful coexistence with the people of Mizoram.

Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles DG also called on Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo at the latters office today. Relocation of the Assam Rifles to Zokhawsang figured prominently in the discussion. The Chief Secretary said that the Assam Rifles was allocated land at Zokhawsang way back in 1987.
