Mizoram CEO meets political parties on upcoming polls

AIZAWL, March 11 - Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashish Kundra today met representatives of all political parties in the State where he briefed them on the Lok Sabha election and Assembly bye-election to Aizawl West-I that will be held simultaneously on April 11.

Kundra said as the Chief Election Commission has announced the dates for Lok Sabha elections on Sunday, the model code of conduct has come into force.

As election for the lone Lok Sabha seat of Mizoram and bye-election will be held simultaneously, the dates of notification of elections, filing of nominations, etc., will be the same.

The CEO said election notification will be issued on March 18, and filing of nominations will be open till March 25. Nominations will be scrutinised on March 26, and last date of withdrawal of nominations is March 28. Votes will be counted on May 23.

The CEO told the political parties to be cautious against violation of election model code of conduct.

Kundra also informed that as the ECI made slight changes on Form 26 all the candidates must be careful while filling up the form so as to avoid rejection.

The CEO said 10 per cent of the polling stations in Mizoram will be reserved for female voters.

First randomisation of EVM will be held 21 days before the polling day, the CEO said and informed the political party representatives to attend the randomisation of EVM.

While Aizawl DC Vanlalngaihsaka has been appointed Returning Officer for Lok Sabha election, the same for Aizawl West-I will be appointed soon.

The CEO also sensitised the political party representatives about political advertisements and media-related issues.

Representatives of Mizo National Front, Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee, Bharatiya Janata Party, Zoram Nationalist Party, Mizoram People�s Conference, and PRISM (People�s Representatives for Identity and Status of Mizoram) attended the meeting.
