Mizoram cases surge to 874

AIZAWL, Aug 20 - With 14 new cases reported during the last 24 hours, Mizoram�s COVID-19 tally reached 874 today. The 14 fresh infections have pushed the State�s active cases to 489, while 384 people have been discharged in Mizoram so far.

From 368 samples tested at the Zoram Medical College laboratory here, one new positive case was detected, an official source said.

Among 368 rapid antigen tests conducted in Kolasib district, 12 truck drivers and handymen tested positive, the source said.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man who works at a petrol pump at Ramhlun North locality here tested positive today. The resident of Zemabawk North in northern Mizoram is showing symptoms and as per his request, a rapid antigen test was conducted on him today, the source said.

Altogether, 482 people have been tested during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the ongoing lockdown in Aizawl that was scheduled to end at 4.30 am on Friday, has been extended till 4.30 am on Monday. A source said that the lockdown has been extended as an employee of a petrol pump tested positive for COVID-19 today.

�Extension of the lockdown is necessary to allow easy contact tracing as hundreds of people had visited the petrol pump during the last few weeks,� the source added.
