Mizoram cases surge to 1,353

AIZAWL, Sept 11 - With 20 fresh cases detected during the last 24 hours, Mizoram�s COVID-19 tally today reached 1,353. Meanwhile, a partial lockdown has been imposed in the municipal area here in view of the surge in local transmission cases.

An official release stated that the 20 new cases were detected from the testing of 576 samples, including 310 at the Zoram Medical College laboratory here, 72 at the Lunglei Civil Hospital�s TrueNat laboratory and 194 through rapid antigen tests in different districts.

While, 16 fresh cases were detected at the Zoram Medical College, Aizawl, three truckers tested positive in antigen tests in Kolasib district. One BSF personnel tested positive at the Lunglei Civil Hospital test.

Of the total 1,353 cases in Mizoram, 603 are active and 750 people have already recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, in view of the detection of a significant number of positive cases from positive contacts and unknown sources recently, the Mizoram Government has announced a one-week partial lockdown that came into effect from Thursday midnight.

An order issued by Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo said, �It is considered necessary to impose temporary restrictions on movement of persons in public places in Aizawl Municipal area in order to facilitate contact tracing, surveillance, testing and to reduce the local transmission rate thereby containing further spread of the disease.�

Even though shops selling essential commodities and pharmacies have been allowed to open, the order prohibits residents from stepping out of their homes or compounds except those exempted during the partial lockdown.
