Mizoram budget session concludes

AIZAWL, March 4 - The Mizoram budget session concluded with Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo adjourning the House sine die today. The session, which commenced from February 17, was the fifth of the present Legislative Assembly.

During the session, the House passed the annual budget amounting to Rs 10,081.01 crore for the fiscal 2020-2021 and supplementary demands for grants amounting to Rs 3,393.13 crore for the current fiscal 2019-20, presented by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who is also the Finance Minister.

The Assembly also passed six government bills, including the Mizoram (Registration of Tourist Trade Bill, 2020, the Mizoram (Land Revenue) (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2020 and the Mizoram Goods and Services Tax (Third Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Out of the 71 private member resolutions admitted, the Assembly unanimously adopted two resolutions � religious freedom and Bru settlement. It also adopted an official resolution on the 126th amendment Bill to the Constitution passed by both Houses of Parliament.

At least 13 papers, including the Mizoram Education (Transfer and Posting of School Teachers) (Amendment) Rules, 2020, were laid in the House.

The Assembly also paid tribute to former Deputy Speaker Lalthankunga and former member C Lalsangzuala, who died recently.

Meanwhile, Sailo thanked the members for maintaining decorum in the House during the session. He also thanked officials of departments concerned and the police for their support.
