AIZAWL, June 8 - Taking strong exception to Chief Minister Zoramthanga�s recent remarks that his party, Mizo National Front, had never supported and would never support the BJP, the Mizoram unit of the saffron party today termed the statement as an �outright lie�.
�We felt it necessary to expose the lies of Chief Minister Zoramthanga before the people of Mizoram,� said Vanlalhmuaka, general secretary of the Mizoram Pradesh BJP at a press conference here today.
�The MNF led by Zoramthanga that was in power during the first BJP-led NDA Government under Prime Minister AB Vajpayee in 1998 supported the NDA. The people of Mizoram clearly remembers that Vanlalzawma, the lone Lok Sabha member from Mizoram elected on an MNF ticket, sat on the Treasury bench,� he said.
Most recently, the MNF was among those who supported BJP national president Amit Shah when the latter proposed the name of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister during the meeting of NDA members at the Central Hall of the Parliament on May 28, Vanlalhmuaka pointed out.
Notwithstanding Zoramthanga�s denial of his support to the NDA, the truth will be revealed on June 17 when the new Lok Sabha sits for its opening session. �If Zoramthanga stands by his words, the MNF MP from Mizoram will sit on the Opposition benches. Only then the people of Mizoram will understand the true colours of the MNF,� he said.
It may be mentioned here that while addressing a function to honour MNF martyrs in Aizawl last week, Zoramthanga claimed that his party had never supported the BJP and would not maintain any alliance with the saffron party.
