AIZAWL, Nov 12 - Mizorams apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), today urged the State Government again to resolve the long-standing border dispute with Assam.

Addressing a function at the student bodys office here, the newly-elected MZP president, B Vanlaltana, said that the student body would continue to campaign to protect the States boundary.

Massive efforts should be made to resolve the long-standing border dispute. I appeal to the State Government to find an amicable solution to the border dispute with Assam, he said, adding that the student body would not hesitate to do anything to protect the people and the States boundaries.

Vanlaltana said that the student body would take measures to ensure that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system is enforced in a stricter manner in the State.

On November 6, the MZP held its general election in which Vanlaltana was unanimously elected as the president. He succeeded L Ramdinliana Renthlei. Peter Chhangte was elected as vice president, while Lalnunmawia Paute was re-elected as the general secretary.

Meanwhile, officials of the State Home Department said that efforts are on to resolve the border dispute between Mizoram and Assam. They added that the State Government had asked Assam to stop the ongoing construction of a mosque near Bairabi on the border to maintain the status quo.
