Mizo elderly woman joins fight against COVID-19

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, April 10 - Even the ripe age of 95 has not deterred her from doing her bit in the war against COVID-19. Nghakliani, a widow who lives at Dawrpui locality here, has shown that nothing can be a barrier not even age if one truly wishes to contribute to the cause of fighting the novel coronavirus.

When the county is waging a war against the dreaded virus, the nonagenarian revived her old passion of sewing to make face masks for frontline health workers who are risking their lives to ensure the safety of others.

Furthermore, she has also donated her one months family pension, which she inherited from her late husband and former MLA Lalrinliana, to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund.

God bless her with good health. She is happy that she is of some help to others, no matter how small or big, in this time of crisis, her granddaughter Sangpuii said.

Nghakliani has donated 30 pieces of face masks to the Grace Nursing Home in Aizawl, and she continues sewing more. Her heartwarming gesture has won accolades on the social media.

Chief Minister Zoramthanga is among those who showered praises on her.

Here is an incredible story of Pi (Mrs) Nghakliani (95), w/o Pu (Mr) Lalrinliana, ex-MLA, whos not yet done with donating her one months pensioners salary of Rs 14,500 to CM Relief Fund, yet still sew face masks and handing them out to those who need them, Zoramthanga tweeted.
