GUWAHATI, Jan 3 There was a mixed response from the people to the call given by the Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist (SUCIC) to observe a dawn-to-dusk Assam bandh today in protest against the Government decision to form an Upper House of the State Legislature.

No report of any untoward incident from any part of the State during the bandh period has been received till the filing of this report.

Train and air services were not affected by the bandh.

The SUCI-C argued that the formation of the Upper House would increase the burden of the common people more as a huge sum of money would have to be spent to pay the members of the Upper House. In the city, some offices and business establishments remained closed, while vehicles continued to ply on the roads during the bandh hours.

According to a PTI report from Silchar, streets of the town wore a deserted look during the bandh hours.
