BONGAIGAON, June 20 - Due to the Bongaigaon District Legal Services Authority�s (DLSA�s) efforts, a missing elderly woman of West Bengal was able to return home on Monday from here.
Churaki Marandi (68), a mentally-ill woman, had gone missing from her residence at Baniadabri of Samuktala area in Alipurduar district in West Bengal on March 12 last year.
Subhankar Barua, a local paralegal volunteer, noticed the woman at Kishan Bazar area near Bongaigaon town. Barua rescued her on May 17 with the help of the DLSA and police and admitted her to the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital under the treatment of psychiatrist Dr Oli Chakravarty.
After a month, when she became well and could communicate like a normal person, she was kept at a shelter home run by Sarvangi Vikash Trust (NGO) near the hospital.
Bongaigaon DLSA secretary Chaturjya Prasad Talukdar and Barua then traced out the home address of the woman and informed her family through the local police of Samuktala. Accordingly, her elder son Daud Hasda reached Bongaigaon. The Bongaigaon DLSA verified the identity and claim of Daud Hasda before it allowed him to take his mother back home.
Talukdar thanked Dr Chakravarty, the trustees of the shelter home, Bongaigaon police and Barua for this philanthropic act.
