Missing case diaries: KMSS not to reveal source, to move SC

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 27 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) that has stirred a hornets nest by attacking Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on several counts, on Tuesday announced that it was not bound to reveal the source that provided it with photocopies of the missing Chandmari and Panbazar police station case diaries involving the Minister. Instead, it announced its resolve to move the Supreme Court in this connection.

The KMSS alleged that the original case diaries were either with the Health Minister or he must have destroyed the diaries.

The KMSS also expressed the apprehension that if it disclosed its source, Himanta Biswa Sarma who was a manage master would manage all the official agencies, including the Judiciary, and the truth would never come out.

Addressing mediapersons here, general secretary of KMSS Akhil Gogoi said that the developments following the KMSSs producing photocopies of the diaries before the media has proved that for the fascist Tarun Gogoi government, the recovery of the missing diaries was a grave crime.

The government did not file any case when the diaries went missing in 1996-97, said Gogoi. He demanded that the CID should also inquire as to how the diaries got lost, why no case was lodged in connection with that development, whether any political patronage was there behind the incident and who had offered the original diaries to the Health Minister for Rs 20 lakh as claimed by the latter.

It needs to be mentioned here that Gogoi was questioned by the CID yesterday in connection with the diaries which the KMSS has condemned in strong terms. After KMSS produced the photocopies of the lost case diaries, a six-member CID team was entrusted to inquire into the media reports related to the diaries.

On the other hand, the KMSS alleged that the Barpeta incident was part of the recent bomb blasts in the State and demanded an inquiry into the role of MP Ismail Hussain and MLA Abdul Khalek in the incident. The KMSS has further insisted on probing the complete phone call details of the two public representatives with Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the DC and the SP of Barpeta district.

Demanding that the Brahmaputra river system be declared a neutral zone and that there should be no construction of dams around it, the KMSS appealed to the Congress party not to support the Tarun Gogoi governments stand on the issue of mega dams.
