Missing case diaries Govt to order CID probe: Gogoi

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 11 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would order a CID inquiry on the issue of the missing case diaries of the cases against then student leader and present State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which was produced by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi at a press conference on Saturday.

Gogoi said that since the case diaries have been brought out by the KMSS leader, the truth should also come out on who stole the documents, and why it was not produced before the police by those who found it.

It is good that the diaries have been unearthed. The government also wants the truth to come out. Ill order a CID probe into the matter tomorrow, the Chief Minister said while talking on the sidelines of an Oil India Limited programme here.

Ruling out chances of taking action against the Health Minister, Gogoi said that no such step can be taken on the basis of mere allegations. Commenting on the developments, he however, said that it was a matter between Akhil Gogoi and Himanta Biswa Sarma, and that he did not come into the picture.

Let Akhil Gogoi go to the court and prove the charges he has levelled, he mentioned.

On the issue of the NC Hills Autonomous Council scam, he said that Rs 1,000 crore was not even sent to the district, so the question of siphoning off of Rs 1,000-crore did not arise. The details would come out in the White Paper to be submitted in the ensuing State Assembly session.

Denying allegations of a stalemate in the process of peace talks with the ULFA, the Chief Minister said that the process was on and the government was looking forward to the estranged ULFA leaders joining in so that hundred per cent results can be achieved.

Though it is not a must for starting the dialogue, we want the outfits leader Paresh Baruah to come for talks. Both the government and the peoples representative body for facilitating the talks should endeavour to bring the underground ULFA leaders to the negotiation table, he added.
