Mising Youth Festival at Gogamukh from Feb 9

SILAPATHAR, Jan 25 � The Fifth Mising Youth Festival will be celebrated at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district with a four-day programme from February 9 to 12.

In a release, the organising committee stated that Asom Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika had attended the fourth Mising Youth Festival (MYF) in 2004 as chief guest and sang some of his valuable songs in the cultural nite in the presence of a over 20,000-strong crowd. He had on that day appealed for a movement to take forward the colourful folk culture of the community through the youth festival.

In this festival, competitions on Mising folk dance (Gumrag, Lotta Soman, Mibu Dagnam, Sellaiya) and Mising song (Aai-Nitom, Anu-Nitom, Mogur Nitom, Ko-ninam and Kaban) will be held. There will also be competitions on short story and poetry writing on Mising language and essay writing competitions on �Mising and its Aai-nitom� for school children and �Big dam and our future� for college children. Moreover, the organising committee will also hold a handloom and textile exhibition-cum-competition, agricultural product competition-cum-exhibition, Mising traditional food festival, Mising rural game, etc.

A seminar on �Big dam and our future� and �Evaluation on Dr Bhupen Hazarika as Yognayak� along with bilingual Mising-Assamese poet meet will also be held. A mini book fair will be organised at the same venue by the Anwesha Publication.

The cultural nite will be held on February 11-12. The festival will conclude with an open session and prize distribution programme on February 12.
