ITANAGAR, May 31 - Unidentified miscreants set a car on fire in front of the residence of Arunachal Pradesh BJP president and newly-elected Lok Sabha member from the Arunachal East constituency, Tapir Gao, at Niti Vihar here around 6.30 am today. The carcass of a pup, which was killed by one of the miscreants, was also left at the entrance to Gaos residence.

CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on the social media, showed two cars stopping near the State BJP chiefs residence. One of the cars (a Maruti WagonR), which was later set ablaze, came close to the entrance gate. A person got down from it and killed the pup before throwing the carcass in front of the gate and setting the car on fire.

Later, a fire brigade from the Itanagar Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the fire. But the car was completely burnt down.

On the basis of an FIR lodged by Gaos family members, the Itanagar Police have started an investigation and collected the CCTV footage.

City SP Tumme Amo said that Gaos family has already lodged a complaint at the Itanagar Police Station. He, however, did not give further details, saying it would hamper the investigation process.

Gao, who is out of station, said that he had already reported the incident to the State Chief Secretary.

Meanwhile, the State BJP has strongly condemned the dastardly act of the miscreants who burnt a vehicle and slaughtered a pup in front of the residence of the party president. It urged the administration to take stringent action against the criminal elements.

In a civilised society, there is no room for such lumpen elements and the authority should not let a few criminals disturb peace and tranquillity. The rule of law must prevail and any breach of law and order should be dealt with firmly, stated the BJP which retained power in the just-concluded Assembly polls by winning a thumping majority.

At the same time, the BJP appealed to its workers to maintain peace and dignity.

Meanwhile, the Adi Baane Kebang (ABK), the apex body of the Adi community to which Gao belongs, strongly denounced the barbaric, ill-conceived, atrocious and brutal act that was executed at the Niti Vihar residential gate of Gao this morning which undoubtedly indicates the ill-intention of the culprit in an attempt to cause harm to the BJP president.

The ABK demanded of the State Government to immediately arrest the culprits and award appropriate punishment. It has also decided to organise a dharna in protest against the incident at the IG Park tennis court here tomorrow.
