Miscreants steal ornaments worth Rs 20 lakhs from Mahamaya temple

Dhubri, March 31: Miscreants stole ornaments worth Rs 20 lakhs from Maa Mahamaya's idol at the historic Saktipeeth of western Assam, Mahamaya Dhaam, at Bagribari on the early hours of Tuesday.

The Manager of the Dhaam, S.C Barman said, "we discovered about the robbery at around 8 am on Tuesday morning, when a priest went to the mandir of Maa, for praying". He also said, "All the ornaments on the body of the idol have been looted, which were made of gold and silver donated by many renowned figures".

The priest informed that the theft took place as the miscreants took advantage of heavy rain and broke the main gate and grill in the window of the temple and looted all the ornaments from the idol of Maa Mahamaya.

He stated that police have assured them that the ornaments will be recovered soon and the miscreants will be caught.
