Misbehaviour by police will not be allowed: CM

NALBARI, Aug 3 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is also holding the charge of Home department has said that Assam Police personnel wouldn�t be allowed to misbehave with innocent people and indulge in corrupt practices in uniform. �Stern auction would be taken against those policemen,� he said.

Addressing a meeting held at the premises of Nalbari Police Station on Monday, Chief Minister Sonowal who inaugurated the new building of Nalbari Sadar police station called upon the people of the State to take the Assam Police personnel into confidence to fight against evil powers in the society. �When I came to power in 2016, we adopted a scheme �Moitri� to modernise the police stations in the State to make them capable to fight the new crimes of technology,� he said. Sonowal further stated that his Government had decided to modernise 350 police stations with the construction of new buildings under the new scheme. Out of them, 73 buildings have already been completed so far.

He congratulated the police personnel who have fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic despite 1,600 of them testing positive. Forty three of them have even donated plasma for the people, he added. The meeting was addressed among others by Minister of Industries Chandra Mohan Patowary, MP of Mangaldai Lok Sabha seat Dilip Saikia, Director General of Police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta and MLAs Ashok Sarma and Narayan Deka.
