BONGAIGAON, March 29 - Agitated villagers of east Bhadragaon under Bidyapur Police Outpost in Bongaigaon district gathered in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police here in the main town on Monday evening demanding arrest of an accused who allegedly abducted a girl from her residence in the village in absence of her family members on March 19.

Mobarak Hussain (35), an Arabic teacher of Kakragaon High School and resident of west Bhadragaon, allegedly abducted a minor, aged between 16 to 17, from her residence at around 9.30 pm on March 19 when she was alone.

Following the incident, the parents of the abducted girl lodged a complaint at Bidyapur Police Outpost the same night.

Accordingly, a case under Section 366 (A) of the IPC was registered against Mobarak Hussain at Bongaigaon Police Station.

Meanwhile, the abducted girl was handed over to Bongaigaon Police Station by Mobaraks family on March 21 morning. But Mobarak remains at large.

After the police produced the girl before the court here, she was sent to a womens home at Jalukbari in Guwahati the same day as the family members of the accused had claimed in the court that Hussain had got married to the girl last year.

On Monday, the court called the victim and both the families to hear their versions, following which the girl was again sent to the womens home at Jalukbari. The victims father said, At any cost, I want my daughter back and seek exemplary punishment to the accused.

On the other hand, the family members of the accused came to take the girl on the basis of the marriage they claimed.

This demand of the Mobaraks family has agitated the residents of the village. Enraged villagers gathered before the court to oppose the move of the accused and help the parents to get their girl back.

When the court sent the victim to the womens home on Monday afternoon, the agitated villagers gathered before the SP office here on Monday evening and sought immediate arrest of the accused, who is still absconding, as per the police.

When contacted, Bongaigaon SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna said, The accused Mobarak Hussain is still at large, but he will be arrested soon.

Over 13 girls of indigenous community had been abducted and married by youths of particular community in the village in the past few months, which had triggered communal tension among the residents of the village, who want to draw the attention of the police and the civil administration for the sake of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the area, said a local youth of Kakragaon.
