TURA, July 6 - A six-year-old girl, who had been missing since 3 pm on Friday, was found dead near Daglapara village in Goalpara district of Assam this morning. One Silsrang B Marak (26), a resident of Mapilsiram village, has been arrested in this connection.
The minor girl was allegedly lured by Marak who used to visit her family at Bolmedang village under the Kharkutta PS in North Garo Hills district. When her parents did not find her at home after their return from the fields, they reported the matter to the Kharkutta PS.
Meanwhile, Marak was spotted by some villagers near Kentra carrying a bag, which he threw into the Manda river nearby. He was caught near Damra village, where he was thrashed by the local residents. Assam Police personnel took him to Dudhnoi in Goalpara to save him from the mob fury.
The suspect later confessed that he had killed the girl and dumped her body in the river.
