MANGALDAI, June 26 - The suicide of a 13-year-old girl at a remote village of Darrang following the publishing of NRCs additional draft exclusion list today created sensation in the district.
The family members of the girl Noor Nehera Begum, daughter of Abdul Kalam of village Rowmari under Shyampur PS in Dalgaon Revenue Circle said that the victim like the other members of the family, had got a wrong interpretation of the draft exclusion list. She was shocked and took the final decision of ending her life as the news of her name missing from the additional draft exclusion list came. Her name was not included in the final draft list. When we found her name missing from this list too, we were shocked. She was equally shocked at the news and hence took the drastic step, a member of her family told the media.
We were not aware that the list published today, is different from the earlier draft lists and the final NRC will be published on July 31, added another family member. The family members and the locals ruled out any other possible reason of her suicide.
This unfortunate incident indicates that there is still confusion about the NRC among the people residing in remote corners of the State. However, the truth will come out only if any inquiry is conducted. It may be mentioned here that the office of the State NRC Coordinator today published an additional draft exclusion list consisting of the names of 1,02,462 people.
