Minor girl mesmerises people with speech

By Correspondent

UDALGURI, Nov 8 - If an underprivileged gets the scope and exposure, he or she can show his talent. This was proved on Saturday when a minor Adivasi girl mesmerised a large congregation of people in a public meeting held at the premises of Sankardev Sishu Niketan in the heart of Udalguri town with her speeches on Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.

The public meeting, organised by the Ekal Vidyalaya Abhiyan, Udalguri Anchal Samiti maintained a pin drop silence when Malati Hembram delivered her speeches on Lord Rama and Lord Krishna with fluency and clarity in Hindi and the audience got lost in her speech and bhajans for nearly half-an-hour at a stretch. Malati, a student of IXth standard, hails from the remote Indo-Bhutan border village of Devitola, a remote rural area of Udalguri district and belongs to an underprivileged family background.

The public meeting to this effect chaired by Devaraj Sapkota, treasurer of Ekal Vidyalaya Abhiyan, Udalguri district committee decided to form a five member Udalguri Anchal Samti of the organisation with Nripen Sarmah as president, Manik Das as general secretary, Jatin Baskey as treasurer and Sanati Baskey and Sukurmani Hembram as members respectively. The public meeting on the occasion was addressed by Khagendra Nath Deka, secretary of the organisation, Nripen Soren, senior worker of Ekal Vidyalaya Abhiyan of Guwahati among many others.

It is to be noted that there are a total of 90 such schools in Udalguri district run by the Ekal Vidyalaya Samiti for the cause of underprivileged children of the society in remote villages while there are a total of 4050 such schools at present in the entire NE India and 54,000 in India which are managed and monitored by Vanabandhu Parishad, which is also known as Friends of Tribal Society at the national level.
