Minor girl dies in Arunachal landslide

ITANAGAR, June 25 - A minor girl was killed in a landslide at Doni Colony here this morning, the police said.

�A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall crushed a bamboo-made house at Doni Colony here this morning, killing a two-year-old girl,� Itanagar Capital Complex SP Tumme Amo said.

He said on getting information about the incident, a police team, along with CRPF personnel, rushed to the site and retrieved the child from the debris with the help of local residents.

Though she was immediately rushed to the RK Mission Hospital here, the medical officer attending on her declared her brought dead, the SP added. The deceased girl has been identified as Yura Yamak, daughter of Yura Take. An unnatural death case has been registered at the Itanagar Police Station in this regard.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss of a minor�s life in Thursday�s landslide. He announced immediate release of an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.

The Chief Minister has also directed the district administration and the Disaster Management Department to continuously monitor the situation.

Woman drowns: In another incident on Wednesday, a woman drowned in the Lagun river near G-Extension at Naharlagun. She was reportedly returning from her shop, and drowned while crossing the river. Her body was recovered from Nirjuli on Thursday morning.

The Chief Minister conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members of the woman.
