Minor boy dies due to COVID-19 in Manipur

IMPHAL, Aug 6 - A 15-year-old boy from Bishnupur district died at the RIMS Hospital here due to COVID-19 today. He had also been suffering from kidney-related ailments. The death toll due to the viral infection has reached eight in Manipur.

Meanwhile, the State today reported 124 new COVID-19 positive cases, including 94 local residents �without any significant travel history�, official reports stated.

In the last 24 hours, 115 persons, including 50 females from the civilian population and nine personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), were confirmed positive at the VRDLs of the RIMS, the JNIMS, Imphal West RAT, Babina Diagnostics Centre, and district hospitals of Churachandpur, Kakching and Shija, a Health Department release stated. The cases are from Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur, Imphal East, Kamjong, Bishnupur and Kangpokpi.

Twenty-one out of the civilian cases are returnees from other States and the rest are without any significant travel history, the release added. They are being shifted to the COVID care facilities.

In the past 24 hours, 43 persons were also discharged from the RIMS and COVID care centres at Meitram, Thoubal, Tamenglong and Ukhrul after they tested negative.

�The cumulative number of positive cases is 3,217 including 2,681 from the general population and 536 from Central security personnel,� the release stated. �The cumulative number of discharged cases is 1,905 including 1,822 from the general population and 83 from security personnel. The number of active cases is 1,304 including 453 central security personnel,� it added.
