Minister reviews measures undertaken to tackle floods

JORHAT, June 2 - State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley on Monday visited Majuli and reviewed the preparedness undertaken by the district administration to tackle floods, which severely hits the river island during the rainy season every year.

In a meeting chaired by the Minister at the Deputy Commissioner�s office chamber at Garamur, he was briefed by the senior district administration officials and heads of all Government departments and agencies about the plan kept ready and steps already taken regarding rescue and relief work to be carried out during floods.

The official said Doley was apprised about extra precautionary measures needed to be taken this time in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister asked the concerned authorities to speed up work on several schemes under way in Majuli to prevent river bank erosion and flooding, the official informed.

Doley was also briefed about the steps taken to prevent outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and about the returnees from outside Assam, who were placed under institutional/hotel quarantine, and about sending to home quarantine if swab results tested negative as per Government rules in this regard.
