Minister reviews flood damage in Darrang dist

MANGALDOI, June 26 � The Minister for Forest and Environment Rockybul Hussain, who is also the in-charge of Darrang district, directed the district agriculture department to submit a report identifying the farm families whose rabi crops have been damaged by the rainwaters or flood in recent times.

Hussain was addressing a district level meeting on flood damage and compensate measures held at the conference hall of deputy commissioner, Darrang recently. The meeting with the high level officials in the administration and all the heads of the government departments of the district directed the agriculture department to identify the intense flood prone areas based on the experiences of 1998 and 2004.

The minister also asked the revenue circle officers to specify the land less persons in the district. The meeting seriously discussed about the availability of baby food and kerosene during flood and directed food and civil supplies department to ensure systematic and periodic distribution of kerosene to the consumers through hawkers.

Moreover the meeting which was also addressed by Dhruba Hazarika deputy commissioner Darrang decided to assure of taking photographs before and after implementation of every MGNREGA schemes in Darrang. The meeting stressed the need of tree plantation drive throughout the district right from this month and proper protection of each such plantation.
