Minister reviews BVFCL Namrup functioning

GUWAHATI, Feb 14 - The Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Rao Indrajit Singh during his short visit to Guwahati met SD Singh, CMD of BVFCL on February 13 and reviewed the present status of the plant and the future survival of the lone fertilizer industry in the entire North-East.

In the meet, a series of discussions were held on the current status of BVFCL where SD Singh, stated the problems besetting the BVFCL including its obsolete technologies and the frequent breakdown of the equipment and machinery due to non-availability of spares from the original manufacturer. He also added that the existing plants, i e., Namrup II and III may run safely for four to five years if a capital investment of Rs 100 crore (approx) is provided for its revamp at the earliest. Singh further added that the necessity of setting up of the proposed Namrup IV plant which would replace the existing old plant with the production capacity of 3.9 lakh MT per annum, a press release received here stated.

The Minister in turn appreciated the concern of BVFCL and assured to take necessary measures for the revamp of the existing plants. He too appreciated the installation of the BVFCL 4th plant with higher production capacity which will also reduce the production cost of urea through optimal utilization of natural gas.

The Minister further added that the development of the North-East is on the priority of the government agenda and he would expedite the installation of a new plant of 8.64 lakh MT per annum at Namrup as decided earlier in May 2015. The Minister also met the officials of the Government of Assam to review the status of various central schemes under the implementation. He asked to expedite the implementation of the Central schemes within the shortest possible time.
