By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 - The Guwahati Development Department Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya today inaugurated a biomethanation-cum-electric energy generation plant at Beelpar, Chatribari.

The plant, constructed by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), has a capacity of 5 TPD. It is a high-rate biomethanation reactor that converts organic waste into energy in the form of biogas, which is then used to generate clean electricity.

The energy generated from the plant will be used for lighting around 1,000 streetlights in the city.

This plant can convert 5,000 kg of segregated organic waste into 800 units of power and 450 kg manure.

Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Singh, GMC Commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika and other officials were also present in the programme.
