Minister hopeful of power supply to all in State by Dec 31

GUWAHATI, July 21 - Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) Tapan Kumar Gogoi today expressed hope that power supply to all households of Assam would be possible by December 31 this year.

Addressing the open session of the two-day 33rd meeting of the general body of the Association of Power Engineers, ASEB on its ultimate day here today, Gogoi, however, maintained that the above job was a very challenging one.

Though it was a tough job, it was not at all impossible to supply power to all households of the State by December 31, 2018, he said.

Power engineer and power consumers' rights activist Subodh Sarma delivered the keynote address on sustainability of electricity business in the midst of the social sector commitment of power to all.

During the technical session held yesterday, experts from the power sector deliberated on important issues like procurement of power through exchange mechanisms; sustainability of a small generation company like the Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL), which has a generating capacity of 371.5 MW; safety measures to prevent electrical accidents and challenges faced by the transmission utility in building up the transmission network by overcoming the right of way problems.
