Milan Jyoti Sangha into golden jubilee year

DIBRUGARH, Jan 1 � The year long golden jubilee celebrations of Milan Jyoti Sangha, one of the oldest sports and socio-cultural organizations of the city here, got off today with a grand inaugural ceremony at its office at Milan Nagar.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs (Independent) Sarbananda Sonowal as the chief guest. Noted writer and former Assam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Nagen Saikia, Labour and Employment Minister Prithibi Majhi, local MLA Prasanta Phukan and DC MS Manivannan were special guests at the function.

The event started with the hoisting of the flag by Majhi and Milan Jyoti Sangha president Dr Birendra Nath Borthakur. The smriti tarpan was initiated by Dr Upendra Nath Borah. The former presidents were also feted.

The sangha will be holding a State-level prize money marathon on January 4 and Shilpi Divas on January 17. Arjun Award winner Bhogeshwar Baruah is expected to flag off the marathon.

Other programmes include a programme for women, Garodia Gold Football Cup, Bishnu Prasad Rabha Divas, distribution of talent awards and felicitation of players, All Assam Ranking Table Tennis, Abhiruchi Sports Day, Dibrugarh Book Fair and cultural and sports festival. Milan Jyoti Sangha was established in 1965.
