GUWAHATI, Aug 12 - The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today strongly opposed the State Governments move to allow 50 State-run schools to migrate to CBSE, asking State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to introduce necessary reforms in SEBA and AHSEC to enhance the competency of these educational bodies.
Addressing the media here, AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya alleged that the announcement of allowing migration of schools to CBSE by State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the Education Minister, in his budget speech, would dishearten the student community of Assam.
The AASU alleged that the announcement reflected the arrogance of the Education Minister and his lack of willingness to introduce necessary reforms.
At one hand the minister announced reconstruction of SEBA, but on the other hand, he allowed the migration. When the students of both CBSE and the State Board and Council follow the same NCERT books, the question of change in curriculum does not arise. On the other hand, both SEBA and AHSEC need to introduce academic and administrative reforms, suggested by as many as four committees on educational reforms. We challenge the Education Minister to make SEBA and AHSEC competent enough, so that the CBSE schools seek migration to the State Board and Council, he added.
AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath stated that barring the books of social science and Assamese at school level, the students of State-run schools and CBSE follow the same NCERT books. The government must take steps to address the problems of State-run schools, he added.
