Itanagar, April 22 (PTI): Pre-historic tools dating back to the Mesolithic Era have been discovered at Leel village in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh, an official said today.

The objects were noticed recently by a teacher of a school while trenches were being dug for construction of a girls' hostel building at the village, situated near Joram-Koloriang road at an altitude of 1050 metres.

Ajay Dug, a junior teacher of the school, brought his discovery to the notice of the school authorities who in turn informed the Director of the State Government's research department, Tage Tada.

At present, the prehistoric tools are in safe custody of the school authorities.

"The discovery of the tools has opened a new chapter in the research of pre-historic, mostly of the Mesolithic period, tools and archaeology in Arunachal Pradesh,'" Tada said.
