Mental health awareness camps held at city colleges

JORABAT, June 29 - An awareness cum screening camp on mental health for college students was conducted at RG Baruah College, Guwahati by the Department of Psychiatry of the District Hospital, Sonapur.

The main objective of the programme � attended by 147 students of RG Baruah College � was to create awareness on mental health and mental illness among college students.

The resource persons were Dr Bhanita Boro, Hemanga Thakuria and Rupali Barman. RG Baruah College Principal Dr Babita Chaudhuri, and English department faculty member Rupam Hazarika were also present.

A similar programme was conducted at West Guwahati Commerce College on June 28 where 109 students took part. West Guwahati Commerce College Principal Harendra Kumar Nath and Management department faculty member Ranjit Das were present during the programme.

Both these events were conducted under the guidelines of the National Mental Health Programme.
