Memorial meet on Saurabh Chaliha

GUWAHATI, July 23 � A memorial meeting is being organised by the Asam Sahitya Sabha at 6 pm at Lakhiram Baruah Sadan on July 25 in the memory of acclaimed writer late Saurabh Kumar Chaliha.

During the meet, poet Nilamoni Phukan and Apurva Sarma will throw light on the literary works of the late Chaliha.

Screening of a short film Bhal Khabar based on the life of Chaliha by filmmaker Abdul Majid will also take place during the meet, informed a press release issued by the apex literary body of the State.

Chaliha, whose real name was Surendra Nath Medhi, passed away last month at the age of 81.

The Sahitya Akademi Award winner is considered as one of the most innovative and powerful writers of Assamese literature. Chaliha won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1974. In 1995, he was honoured with the Assam Valley Literary Award by the Williamson Magor Education Trust.
