Memo to minister highlights woes of college librarians

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Aug 21 - The librarians working in colleges included under the provision of provincialised college by the State government have sought inclusion of the post of college librarian in the said colleges. A memorandum was sent to Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in this regard today.

The State Govt on Tuesday announced provincialisation of over 300 educational institutions and nearly 4,000 faculty members and staff associated with them.

The memorandum read, We are very much surprised to see that the college librarians working in the said colleges are not included within its purview. College librarians are under the UGC pay structure as of college teachers (like Assistant Professor, Associate Professor) and necessary qualification like the teachers. College librarians are also sincerely extending their services to the college community since long in those colleges.

The memorandum further read, Considering this and all other related issues, the college librarians of 27 newly provincialised colleges and 46 earlier provincialised colleges should get their due and be included in the list in order to avail the benefits.
