GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - Taking action against the publishing houses which defied the unanimous decision to boycott the government-aided book fair in Guwahati, the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association has suspended the membership of six of its members for six years.
The six houses include Bhabani Books, Assam Law House, Eastern Book House, Assamese Language and Software Centre, NL Publication and Assam Publishing Company.
�It was a united stand of all the members of the Association to boycott the Guwahati Book Fair organised by the Publication Board, Assam. The decision had its genesis in the larger issue of survival of the publishers and book sellers of the State. The six houses, however, chose to take part in the book fair, defying our call, so we took this disciplinary action,� general secretary of the Association Dhiraj Goswami said.
