Meira Kumar arrives in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, April 27 � Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar along with a team of officials from the Lok Sabha Secretariat today arrived in Itanagar on her maiden visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

Kumar will inaugurate the two-day session of the 13th North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) conference at Banquet Hall here tomorrow. The theme of the conference is �Financial Autonomy of Legislative Assembly Secretariat adhering to the provision of the Constitution of India�.

She is expected to address the executive committee meeting of NERCPA at Nokmey Namati Hall of State Legislative Assembly Secretariat at Naharlagun later in the evening.

On a four-day trip to this hilly Northeastern State, the Speaker along with her entourage that also included Lok Sabha Secretary General T K Vishwanathan is expected to visit Tawang on April 29 before flying back to the national capital.

Soon after her arrival, the Lok Sabha Speaker called on Governor Gen J J Singh at Raj Bhavan and had a one-on-one on some important projects relating to infrastructure development, like Railway line and Trans-Arunachal Highway.

Earlier, the Speaker, upon her arrival, was accorded a welcome by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and State Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong and others at the Raj Bhawan Helipad. Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering, senior civil and police officials received the Speaker.
