Meghalaya Youth Cong seeks roll back of duties on petrol

By Correspondent

TURA, Sept 24 - Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) staged a rally against BJP-led NDA Government for the rising price of fuel demanding immediate roll back of Central excise duties on petrol and diesel.

The rallyists marched through the streets of Tura on Thursday and chanted anti-Modi slogans.

They said that the hike in petroleum prices has affected price of essential commodities like vegetables, dal, onion, milk, groceries, etc.

The Youth Congress activists said that despite lower crude oil price internationally, Modi Government has failed to stabilise fuel price, which has affected the people.

The total levy on diesel is Rs 17.33 per litre and for petrol, Rs 21.48 per litre as on Thursday versus Rs 3.43 per litre for diesel and Rs 9.20 per litre for petrol in November 2014, which is equal to a hike of 400 per cent and 133 per cent on diesel and petrol respectively, the rallyists said.

The activists termed the move of the Centre as robbery and loot in broad daylight. It further termed demonetisation as disaster and GST as loot through high tax component on petroleum products. BJP is harassing the common man and killing the poor, the Youth Congress further alleged.
