Meghalaya wine fest likely in Delhi

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Oct 9 In keeping with the Meghalaya Governments fresh initiative to boost tourism, the State Government may hold a wine festival in the national capital later this year.

The request to hold the festival, which is a popular event in Meghalaya, came from members of Press Club of India, while felicitating State Tourism Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh last evening.

The Minister was invited as guest of honour to the Jammu and Kashmir Festival at the Club.

Addressing the function, the Minister clarified that the State was trouble-free and friendly to tourists.

She said wine is popular in Meghalaya, but unlike Goa, it is still unorganised and the industry is still in a nascent state. But she added that the State Government with the help of the wine producers are working towards popularising it.
