Meghalaya virus tally touches 609

SHILLONG, Aug 2 - The number of active cases have increased to 609 with 12 new COVID 19 cases being reported across the State in the past 24 hours.

According to health officials, of the 12 new cases, five were BSF personnel, three from the Air Force and the rest were civilians. All the 12 were from East Khasi Hills district. During the same 24 hour period 2 patents have also recovered from the infection taking the total recovery to 254.

Meanwhile, the East Khasi district administration has lifted the containment order for Mawlaia Mawtawar. The district administration has once again announced its weekly night curfew order in the district.

Night curfew has been promulgated from August 3 to August 10 from 9 pm to 5 am on each of these days. Exemptions are in place for the security personnel, healthcare staff, vehicles carrying essential commodities, including medicines and other essential services.

In the capital, shops are open on a numbering system, which the district administration said the system would continue. Only 50 per cent vehicles, on an odd-even basis, would ply on the streets.
