Meghalaya VDP fires at Bangla intruders

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 12 Though the relation between India and Bangladesh improved considerably in recent times, a major incursion took place in East Khasi Hills area early this morning resulting in firing by village defence party personnel.

Official sources in Shillong said that a group of around 30 Bangladeshi nationals infiltrated into Indian territory in the Nayabazar area of east Khasi Hills at around 3 am today and tried to take away forest produce. The people of the locality tried to resist them and unable to bring the situation under control, the VDP personnel fired at the Bangladeshi nationals with their 12 bore guns.

Official sources said that this was not the first case of incursion into Indian territory by Bangladeshi nationals in that area as on September 27 last year, a same kind of incident took place and one Indian woman was killed in the clashes between the citizens of both the countries.
