Meghalaya to build entry-exit points

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, July 23 - Meghalaya Government is building entry and exit points in the State to check infiltration into the State.

Speaking to the media after a review meeting here recently, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said, it is expected that some of the infrastructure would be built within this year after the Monsoon season.

These points would have facilities to check those entering and exiting from the State. It would also have facilities like tourism information centre, eateries and other amenities.

There are several such points that are being proposed in Phase I. Work on about 20 such points would start this year.

We have asked the departments including Labour and Revenue, which would be involved in this project, to increase their manpower, Sangma said.

The Chief Minister added the project is being given priority due to the changing geo-politics in the region. We have to ensure that we dont overshoot our target date to complete this project, Sangma stated.

Senior officials would be meeting within this week and give their recommendations. These would be presented before the Cabinet for approval.

Admitting that the estimated cost of these facilities are yet to be assessed, the Chief Minister said, We expect all paperwork to be completed by Monsoon so that the physical work on the ground could begin post Monsoon and some of the facilities could be completed by end of this year.
