By Staff correspondent

SHILLONG, Oct 29 - Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Methbah Lyngdoh today laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Mairang bypass and thanked landowners for ensuring that the project is implemented without

any hitch.

The bypass will start from Mawsawa near the office of the SDO, Mairang, and end near the Mairang C&RD Block Office. The total length of the road will be 2.375 km and it will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8.64 crore. The project is being implemented under the Central Road Fund, 2018-19.

Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh thanked the 21 landowners who parted with their land to make the ensuing construction works possible. Without their support, this project would not have been possible,

he added.

The Speaker stated that the road would benefit the people of Mairang constituency and ease the traffic congestion in the area, especially on the days when the local markets operate.

Lyngdoh pointed out that the Pyndengumiong area has become congested and is posing a threat to road safety.
